GW wanted to get into the mid-80’s Gundam and Robotech craze but dealing with Japanese proved too difficult as they wanted insane money for the licenses, forgetting that while super-popular in Japan, Gundam and other mecha shows had limited appeal outside. The idea was to have a battletech-like game but based on anime mecha. Several prototypes were made in quantities of a few dozen each, but when the idea was scrapped, these were put 3 to a pack and sold off as an unlisted mail order item.
