New page

{{Eldar - Encyclopedia Index}}

===VAMPIRE===
The Vampire is one of the largest of the Eldar flyers. This sleek ship carriers Eldar assault squads to the heart of the enemies positions and also has massive short range firepower to support disembarked troops. The Vampire is capable of transporting up to 30 Eldar foot troops as well as support equipment. The Vampire is armed with a nose-mounted Scatter Laser and two twin-linked Pulse Lasers as well as being protected from enemy fire by holo fields. The Vampire also has a variant designed for ground attack armed with a large centre mounted laser weapon (see Phoenix Bomber; Nightwing).

===VARANTHA===
Literally translated as 'Crown of our Steadfast Hopes'. Varantha is a Craftworld famed for its skilled artisans in the arts of metalworking, gems, and beautiful flower gardens. The Eldar forces of Varentha saved an Exodite world from the ravages of the Word Bearers Space Marines when they destroyed the blasphemous Cathedral of the Fifth Blessing and defeated the Khornate Marines (see also Craftworlds; Exodites).

===VAUL===
Vaul is the smith god of the Eldar, crippled, but highly skilled in artifice and skill and the brother of Asuryan, apex of the Eldar pantheon. He secured the release of Isha and Kurnous from the dungeons of Khaine by promising the war god one hundred swords to use against the legions of the Yngir in the War in Heaven. When the time came to complete the bargain, Vaul had only finished ninety-nine blades, but made up the shortfall with an ordinary mortal blade. By this means he deceived Khaine for long enough to free the captive god and goddess and flee with them to safety. The War in Heaven lasted for many years, pitting many gods against the Yngir. Gods changing allegiances, making and breaking bargains. Asuryan refused to takes sides, for he had begun to regret his hasty anger with Isha and despaired of the War god's destruction. Finally Khaine saw light and sided with the Eldar against the legions of the Yngir, using the one hundred blades to arm his host and battle the legions of the Yngir.

Vaul reforged the final blade, the sword that he had failed to finish for Khaine, and he made it the mightiest sword of all. He called is Anaris, which means dawnlight, and with this weapon in his hand he strode to do battle with Khaine. The fight was long and Vaul did Khaine much hurt, Anaris darted swift and deadly as lightening but in the end Khaine overpowered the smith god and toppled him from heaven. It was as a result of this that Vaul is said to have suffered the injuries that left him crippled. Khaine chained Vaul to his own anvil with chains of iron and the War in Heaven was won by the War god. The sword Anaris fell into the hands of the mortal prince Eldanesh who confronted Khaine, but was torn apart and killed.

Vaul, now crippled, opposed the Void Dragon, creating the Wraithguard in order to stand against the Necrons, and to buy him time to construct the Talismans of Vaul. Once these were finished, he located the Dragon as it fed, and set off for battle (See Asuryan; Gods of the Eldar; Isha; Kaela Mensha Khaine; Kurnous; Talismans of Vaul; Void Dragon; Wraithguard; Yngir).

===VENOM===
Much of the Webway cannot be transversed by large vehicles, and so the Harlequins make wide use of the Venom. The Venom is a modified version of the Vyper war machine used by the Craftworld Eldar, incorporating an open transport deck instead of a gun cradle. Such is the skill of every Harlequin that the small numbers of warriors that can be transported by this vehicle is still enough to overcome enemy units many times their size (see Harlequins; Vypers).

===VOID-DRAGON===
One of the Necrontyr gods, known to the Eldar as the Yngir. The Void Dragon was the most powerful of its kind, bent on exterminating the Eldar, and drinking power from the stars themselves. The Void Dragon was considered to be oblivion itself, a figure of destruction and devastation in Eldar mythology. Its warriors were practically invincible, capable of slaughtering hundreds of Eldar before falling, only to rise again. Vaul the Smith-God created Wraithguard and Wraithlords to battle the warriors of the Void Dragon, as well as constructing the Talismans of Vaul in an attempt to destroy the Void Dragon for eternity, locating the Yngir as it leached the very stars for energy. The Void Dragon stopped in its slaughter of the Eldar, but went into hibernation, waiting for the right time to reappear (see Talismans of Vaul; Vaul; Wraithguard; Wraithlord; Yngir).

===VOID STALKER===
For almost he entirety of the Gothic War, Eldar fleets were composed mostly of escort ships accompanied by a few cruisers. However, after the battle of Gethsemane and the alliance of many of the Eldar pirate fleets with Lord Ravensburg, a new terror began the hunt across the stars. The Void Stalker is the pinnacle of Eldar stellar technology, combining strong armament with high speed and maneuverability; the match of any ship in the Gothic Sector.

Designed in secret, the Void Stalker project was hoped to be able to return space superiority to the Eldar fleets. As the war escalated, so did the presence of Imperial and Chaos warships. Lord Ravensburg convinced the many princes who joined him to fund the Void Stalker. Unimpressed with the idea at first, reportedly because a battleship is too brutish of a vessel to be worthy of the Eldar, they soon changed their tune once the prototype glided out of the manufacturing facility. From that moment on, all the Eldar pirate captains desired a Void Stalker, armed as it is with keel batteries and prow pulsar lances. The Void Stalker also has launch bays for Darkstar fighters and Eagle bombers. Several Void Stalkers, such as the Forge of Vaul are armed with torpedoes in the keel instead of the launch bay (see Starships).

===VYPERS===
Vyper jetbikes are highly mobile weapons platforms, capable of laying down a withering fire even at high speed. Although not heavily armoured, their ability to skim quickly through the air provides them with as sure a defence as any amount of thick armoured plating. They are exceptionally common accompanying jetbike squadrons in Saim-Hann Wild Rider hosts (See also Jetbikes; Saim-Hann; Venom).
