3rd Edition Eldar 1998

In 1998, WH40k 3rd edition was released, marking a further advance away from the skirmish game of Rogue Trader, to a full-on pitched battle scenario. The biggest change for 3rd edition was the release of multi-component plastic kits for all basic troopers, making large armies viable to field. The Guardian set saw a radical redesign of the appearance of armour and helmets which reinforced the overall appearance of the Eldar as a race.

3rd Edition Codex Craftworld Eldar Releases 2000

When Codex Craftworld Eldar was released, the accompanying miniature range was the biggest overhaul of the Eldar since the 1991 figures. The old Jes Goodwin designs were resculpted by the Citadel Team, however many of the new models were not well received, being inelegant or clunky in design.

Dire Avenger Boxed Set

The Dire Avenger Boxed set comprised a metal and plastic hybrid set with white metal add-ons to the existing 3rd Ed Guardian plastic kit.

Howling Banshees

The Eldar Banshees in the 3rd edition had been released as bodies with fixed shuriken-pistol-arm and separate sword-arms which could be glued in 1 or 2 poses.

Striking Scorpions

Fire Dragons

Swooping Hawks

In contrary to the old Hawks, the new ones had their wings as single parts on one sprue to be able to give them a non-flat positioning when attached to the bodies.

Shining Spears

The Shining Spears models comprised a metal and plastic hybrid set with white metal add-ons to the existing 2nd Ed Guardian plastic jetbike. While Spear 1 and Spear 2 were complete models, there was only a 3rd upper alternate body.

Dark Reapers

Support Weapons

The support weapons kits used the existing Gunners and Loaders from the 1998 Grav Platforms.

3rd Edition Eye of Terror Eldar Releases 2002

In 2002, GW released a concept campaign codex for the global Eye of Terror campaign. Included in the codex was a list for using the Ulthwe Strike Force, a predominantly infantry based army which dropped into battle from the Webway. To accompany the army list, a plastic and metal hybrid kit for Storm Guardians, and the Ulthwe Seer Council boxed sets were released.

Storm Guardian Boxed Set

The Storm Guardian boxed set comprised a metal and plastic hybrid set with white metal add-ons to the existing 3rd Ed Guardian plastic kit.
