DAEL STARBORN

Commander of the Star Serpents Hellebore squadron at the Battle of Gethsemane in the Gothic War, Lord Dael Starborn is quoted as saying (about the mon-keigh) "We will destroy you now, not for what you have done, but for what you are capable of."

DARK ELDAR

For many years the Imperium did not distinguish between the Eldar sub-races, attributing all encounters as blood-thirsty Eldar mercenaries. Investigation into the Eldar revealed that the sub-race known as Dark Eldar were in the main responsible for the reputation of the Eldar. Dark Eldar are self-serving masochists. Worshipping no-one but themselves, they inhabit a vast dark city deep in the Webway where murder, slavery and violence are law. On the battlefields of the 40K universe, there is no change as the depraved Eldar attack lightening-quick and leave behind only broken and mutilated bodies (see Commarragh; Haemonculi; Incubi; Kabals; Mandrakes; Wych Cults).

DARK REAPERS (OTBUANNA)

Taught the ways of war by the Phoenix Lord Maugan-Ra, Dark Reapers are the most sinister and lethal of the Warrior Aspects. They portray the war god as the Destroyer; their dark skull-encrusted costume embodying death as the dark reaper of souls. The Dark Reapers are the most heavily equipped of all Aspect Warriors. Their armour is made from heavy interlocked plates and has characteristic heavy armour boots to provide extra stability when firing the Reaper missile launcher. Dark Reapers wear armour of a very dark colour, near black or dark blue, echoing the night sky and have warpaint based on grim skulls.

DAYS OF THE WEEK

The Eldar week consists of six days, each of which belongs to one of the major Gods, as outlined below. These days have no direct equivalent to English days of the week.

  1. Lamarti (Khaine)
  2. Eotross (Kurnous)
  3. Sindra (Isha)
  4. Iolox (Vaul)
  5. Tesstrassa (Asuryan)
  6. Orthun (Lileath)

DEATH JESTER

Death Jesters are the heavy specialists of the Harlequin Troupe, able to carry a variety of exotic and deadly armaments. However, Death Jesters are just as skilled in close combat as any Harlequin, and many a foe has charged a Death jester and been cut down for their ignorance. When Harlequins take to the stage, Death jesters take the part of Death, performing daring stunts of escapology and risk. Their masks are skulls, and the bones that decorate a Death Jester's costume are said to be made from the Troupe's previous Death Jester. They are noted by other Eldar for their ironic and morbid sense of humour.

DEATHSTALKER PRISM CANNON

The Deathstalker is an early pre-cursor to the smaller and more advanced Fire Prism variant of the Falcon chassis. The Deathstalker mounts a huge prism cannon the entire length of its hull. The rear-mounted crystal contains a warp energy field, which is released as the weapon fires, creating a highly focused and destructive beam. The crystal at the rear of the weapon has the ability to trap and focus the bean from another prism cannon, increasing the power considerably. Several Deathstalkers can exploit this by forming a chain, each prism cannon firing into the crystal of another, combining the energy into a single powerful burst.

DEATHSWORD

A sword that was not a sword, but a captured echo of the death force of the universe bound into the shape of a blade. Forged by priests of the Temple of Asuryan on Astayan to destroy Slaanesh at his birth, the weapon was not powerful enough, and hidden for ten millennia under the ruins of the planet, deep in the Eye of Terror. The Deathsword was created in the image of Khaine's blade, set in crystal, and designed to be the bane of daemons - death manifest in the form of a weapon.

DIRE AVENGERS (ESIKCAMAN)

Taught the ways of war by the Phoenix Lord Asurmen, the Dire Avengers cultivate the Aspect of the war god as the embodiment of the noble warrior - merciless to his enemies and unstinting in his devotion to his own people. They are the most tactically flexible and therefore the most ubiquitous of all Aspect Warriors, with many of the largest shrines among most craftworlds. They are also commonly known as Knights of Wrath or Avenging Sprits. Dire Avengers are armed with the deadly Shuriken Catapult (Tuelean), the weapon that most readily characterises the Eldar at war. Their warpaint is based on triangular or blade shapes.

DOME OF CRYSTAL SEERS

As Farseers grow older, their minds become so closely linked with the wraithbone core of their craftworld that their physical bodies grow dormant. Eventually a Farseer of great age will retreat to the Dome of Crystal Seers. Here the ship's wraithbone core breaks through into a broad bio-dome where groves of wraithbone trees reach out into space. Once inside the dome the Farseer's body gradually crystallises and takes root amongst the trees, until he eventually turns entirely to crystal. The Farseer's spirit is freed into the craftworld itself, preserved forever within the psycho-conductive wraithbone infinity circuit. Other Eldar sometimes wander through the Dome of the Crystal Seers to look upon the Farseers of old whose forms are forever preserved amongst the glades of wraithbone trees.

DOOMWEAVER

The Eldar Doomweaver grav-tank is a strange vehicle, and early variant of the Night Spinner tank. The tank is armed with one heavy weapon; the Doomweaver, the feared heavy version of the Deathspinner used by the Aspect Warriors called the Warp Spiders. When it fires, an almost deafening whisper can be heard, and the Doomweaver discharges a cloud of monofilament wire, as delicate as silk but nearly indestructible. At greater ranges, this cloud may fall gently to the ground, crippling and killing beings under it, but at shorter range, it is discharged straight forward, whipping through the air, cutting through flesh and armour as if it wasn't there.

The Doomweaver is often accompanied into battle by Warp Spiders, adding their own Deathspinners to its own. It is crewed by Eldar Guardians trained by the Spider-father, the Mentor of the Warp Spiders, and the keeper of the Warp Spider Exarch armoury. He instructs them in the nature and use of the Doomweaver, and how to use it with the greatest efficiency.

DORHAI

Dorhai is an isolationist craftworld that refuses to deal with other craftworlds, believing them to be infested with the seeds of Chaos.

DRAGON CAR

A streamlined intra-craftworld transport running along wraithbone monorails. Often embellished with enamelled runes, images of multi-coloured wings and fire spouts crafted in the form of dragon heads.

DRAGON REST

The area on a craftworld where the Fire Dragons Aspect Warriors hone their arts, meditating on their weaponry.

DREAMSTONE

Dreamstones are valuable Eldar talismans, similar to spirit stones created in the heart of a craftworld, grown from a substance similar to wraithbone. They are used as psychic shields against the predations of chaos.

DURO

Duro is an Exodite world that was used as a base by the Eldar pirate Galadhar the Grey.
