The Fighting Fantasy range of 60mm plastic figures were the first plastic figures produced by Citadel and were released to accompany the Fighting Fantasy range of books published by Penguin.
Each race came with three variant bodies, up to 9 variant heads and a weapon sprue that was released in silver, gold or red plastic. The patterns on the shields showed further variations.
It should be noted:
1. While the heads for most figures were designed to plug into the body, the heads for the FF7-9 Heroic Knights and FF10-12 Warriors of Chaos were cast as part of the bodies with a separate helmet which fitted over the head.
2. While most blisters were packed with a single head variant, the FF25-27 Ferocious Ogres were different with 2 different heads being packed in each blister.
3. While it was usual for the different coloured sprues supplied for each race to be identical, except for the colour, it appears that the situation for the FF25-27 Ferocious Ogres was different. While the sprues were the same, it seems that instead of the full complement of 3 weapons cast on the sprue being supplied, only 2 were supplied with the third, presumably, being packed loose with another loose one in a blister.
4. The weapons sprues supplied with the FF1-3 Mystic Wizards and the FF7-9 Heroic Knights were the same, as were the shield patterns.
5. The weapons sprues supplied with the FF4-6 Mighty Thewed Barbarians and the FF13-15 Fearless Dwarfs were the same, as were the shield patterns.
6. The weapons sprues supplied with the FF10-12 Warriors of Chaos and the FF16-18 Deadly Skeletons were the same, as were the shield patterns.
7. The weapons sprues supplied with the FF19-21 Evil Goblins and the FF22-24 Vile Orcs were the same, as were the shield patterns.
