A range of Dark Age figures covering the late 7th Century up to and including the 11th Century. This range also features Citadel's unique concept of individualized figures. Most of the Arabs, Turks, Vikings and Carolingians have been specially prepared to have different faces, helmets and shields to provide individualized figures of the same kind. Thus each pack of a figure is likely to be diferent, providing you with forces with an authentic individuality.

The Dark Age range of figures were illustrated in early 1980's Citadel and Ral Partha literature as a Historical range of figures. The first advertisement didn't mention "individualized" figures (Military Modelling Magazine, October 1979). The title "individualized" figures appeared in a Military Modelling Magazine, January 1980 Games Workshop advertisement.

The First Citadel Compendium (October 1983) is illustrated with drawings of most of these figures appearing as C38 Medieval Adventurers (designated as "generic" Knights, Vikings, Berserkers, City Guard, Gate Guard, City Militia, Temple Guard, Henchmen, Peasant Levies and Men of the East rather than the original Historical names) and C39 Medieval Cavalry (designated as "generic" Knights, Men at Arms, Horse Riders and Riders of the East, rather than the original Historical names). This corresponds with the first release of Warhammer. Per Warhammer 1st Edition Vol.1 : Tabletop Battles "Citadel fighting men are available to meet the requirements of the most demanding commander! C37, C28, and C39 provide an assortment of Medieval and Dark Age warriors together with Arab types and fearsome Vikings." With the Forces of Fantasy Supplement and 2nd Editions of Warhammer, "men" were divided as Men of the West, Men of the East, Men of the North, etc.

There are many more variations on each model, not shown here. Per Terry Wise in MMM August 1980: "...there were no less than 24 variations of the basic figure available - different shield types, different shield patterns, different heads, same heads but different angles, long beard, short beard."
