075003 Heroes Oddity

The blister shown below is unusual in several ways. Firstly the numbering - the product code 075003 was not in use while Citadel held the license for LOTR figures. The last comprehensive listing of LOTR figures from Citadel appears to have been the Spring 1986 Journal although occasional releases showed in flyers and White Dwarfs until the last listing, that of Uruk Hai in the March 1988 flyer. That style of product code was not used until July 1989.

Secondly, for the contents. Given the label of "Heroes", it might have been expected the blister would contain the figures from the ME-1 or ME-2 blisters but that is not the case. The blister contains the Strider on foot miniature from the ME-12 Strider the Ranger release, the Gimli on foot miniature from the ME-15 Gimli Dwarf Hero release and a wizard from the general ranges (No. 18 on page 1201 of the 1988 Catalogue).

It is suspected Games Workshop USA were trying to clear out old stock and so made these blisters to use up figures already cast that they were unable to sell otherwise. It would be interesting to know if other, similarly unusual, blisters were made.
