A former employee of Games Workshop notes that: "This figure was originally made for the Marauder Dark Elf beastmaster (along with the unreleased chimera) but the whole idea of smaller riderless monsters was scrapped at the time & the body on the manticore had the wings plugged & was used as a chaos hound later, which is why it looks totally different to the other chaos hounds (see http://www.solegends.com/citcat1999/c1999p0297-02.htm)."
