Zombies - FTZ Fantasy Tribe (solid base)

Citadel released the Fantasy Tribes Zombies in WD32 Aug 1982. Most are 28mm, from the tabletop to the top of the head. As you'll see there were a LOT of different variants to quite a few of the bodies in the range. So if you are a collector, going after this full set will keep you very busy. There were 8 different Zombies, all of which could have come with one of 27 different head variants and if that was not enough, you could also buy separate heads for conversions. No one really knows just how many variants there are out there and it's known that one variant has the same head, but is looking a different way. Richard (OrcLord) discussed this line with both the Perrys and Bryan Ansell. The story is that they made a bunch of bodies, weapons and heads and sat around one day mixing and matching to create variants. They did not systematically create all variations, but randomly a few of this and a few of that. When the moulds went bad, that figure was cut out, and when they needed new moulds they just made some more.

The Citadel FTZ Fantasy Tribe Zombies line was later released as C19 Zombies. The purpose of this page is to show images of the miniatures only seen as drawings in the C19 section of Citadel Compendium 1 and to add to the small pictures of some of the painted Fantasy Tribe Zombies at The Stuff of Legends.

Each body's variant has been placed in the same order down the page for ease of recognition. The bodies names are correct as per the citadel catalogues, but the names that I have used to describe the individual head type are not official Games Workshop Citadel names. They are just to describe the head so it can be more easily recognised and remembered. A full description has also been given as some of each heads features may not be present due to original mould quality or damage received over time.

• 

  Variation 1: Aged. Older looking with wisps of hair on his head. Left eye socket is empty with only the left side of mouth open.

• 

  Variation 2: Angry. Full hair, wide open mouth with teeth showing. Left eye socket empty with brow ridge raised to outside corner. Nose possibly rotted off.

• 

  Variation 3: Axe. Long and thin faced with an axe blade and haft in the back of his head. Nose possibly rotted off.

• 

  Variation 4: Bald (Expressionless). Slim faced almost golem looking.

• 

  Variation 5: Bald (Smirking). Open mouthed, possible damaged lower jaw. Upwards wound from his left side of mouth gives a sneaky look.

• 

  Variation 6: Beard. Old pirate looking and possibly has a bandana around his head, or rotten flesh hanging off his scalp.

• 

  Variation 7: Blind. Deep eye sockets with tongue or loose flesh hanging out of his mouths left side. Nose possibly rotted off.

• 

  Variation 8: Dangling eyeball. Right eyeball hanging down face and an open mouth with dead flesh hanging out of it.

• 

  Variation 9: Gums. Bulbous eyes with damage to his left eye socket. Plenty of teeth and you can see inside his mouth. Nose rotted off.

• 

  Variation 10: Hair. Very long hair at sides past lower jawline. Strands of hair cover the face and are over the right eye socket. Nose possibly rotted off.

• 

  Variation 11: Harry Rotter. Empty eye sockets and long hair. Hair appears to form a "Z" on his forehead.

• 

  Variation 12: Headband (Looking forward). Left eye socket empty, wound on left side of face. Sweatband with hair up.

• 

  Variation 13: Headband (Looking to his left). Left eye socket empty, wound on left side of face. Sweatband with hair up.

• 

  Variation 14: Helm (Horns). Open mouthed with two broken horns on helm. His helms left horn is longer than the right. Nose possibly rotted off.

• 

  Variation 15: Helm (Norse). Empty eye sockets. Emaciated with slim lower part of face.

• 

  Variation 16: Helm (Persian). Empty eye sockets and closed mouth.

• 

  Variation 17: Helm (Skull cap). Wound or rotten left side of face results in missing feature of his left jaw area.

• 

  Variation 18: Helm (Spanish). Empty eye sockets and emaciated with slim lower part of face. Almost skeletal looking. Nose possibly rotted off.

• 

  Variation 19: Mummy. Has bandages across his face.

• 

  Variation 20: Sad. Noticeable long hair. Unhappy looking, gaunt or emaciated with slim lower part of face

• 

  Variation 21: Skull wound. A severe cut to the right side of his face and an indent in the top left of his skull.

• 

  Variation 22: Snout. Mouth open with the left side of his bottom lip sagging down. Deep set left eye, or empty socket with the brow ridge of the forehead raised on his left side.

• 

  Variation 23: Snub. Empty eye sockets and hair parted on his left side. Nose rotted off.

• 

  Variation 24: Spot (Small). Empty left eye socket, with small lump on forehead just above this. Nose rotted off.

• 

  Variation 25: Spot (Large). Prominent lump high up on bald scalp. Large growth on left side of head or severe wound with brains pushing out. A beak type nose.

  Variation 26: Two face. Skull showing on his right side, appears half skeletal, half Zombie.

  Variation 27: Worm (or dangling optic nerve). Has long hair parted on his left side and left eyeball still in socket. Nose possibly rotted off.

  Variation 28: Zorg. No hair on his right side and empty right eye socket with large open mouth. Hair is long on his left side and lock of hair in centre of forehead runs down to the nose which is rotted off.

FTZ1 Zombie Staggering Forward

This Zombie has it's right arm down by it's side and it's left arm reaching out, as if it's stumbling forward and needs it for balance. It has it's shirt open at the front with it's guts hanging out.
